Outdoor Plaque Customisation Options

Every outdoor plaque we produce is fully customisable. The following options can be specified when you place your order, or our design team will guide you through the choices when you contact us.

Size

Our outdoor plaques are available in a wide variety of standard sizes, and custom sizes are produced on request. Popular sizes include 8×10, 10×8, and 12×12 inches. If you have a specific dimension requirement — imposed by a bench manufacturer, a cemetery, a building specification, or a landscape architect — we produce to that size precisely.

Metal

Outdoor plaques are available in four metal options: stainless steel, gold brass, blackened brass, and antique brass. For outdoor plaques in exposed environments, we recommend stainless steel for maximum long-term durability. Antique brass is the most popular choice for garden memorials and cemetery plaques. Blackened brass offers high contrast between the dark background and bright lettering.

Mounting Options

All outdoor plaque installation options are straightforward and do not require a professional installer. You can choose from: no mounting holes (for adhesive mounting), 2 mounting holes, 4 mounting holes, beveled edges (for a framed look on a wall), or metal post (for ground installation in soil). Stainless steel screws are included with all hole-mount options.

Protective Varnish Coating

All outdoor plaques receive a factory-applied lacquer coat to protect the surface from weathering, moisture, and UV exposure. This coating is what allows our outdoor plaques to remain in excellent condition for 20–30 years without maintenance in most environments.

Photo Engraving

You can add a photograph to any outdoor plaque. We convert your photo into a bitmap and chemically etch it directly into the metal surface. The result is a permanent, high-contrast portrait that does not fade outdoors. The etching is part of the metal itself, not a print on top of it. Text, Fonts, and Design

You can choose from multiple fonts and sizes for the engraved text. All plaques include standard chemically etched text. Reverse engraved (raised lettering) is available on our brass finishes — the lettering stands proud of the background in polished metal. If you have your own design file, you can upload it in the order form. If you prefer, our design team will create a layout for you at no extra cost, with unlimited free revisions until you are satisfied.

How Long Will an Outdoor Plaque Last?

We have customers whose outdoor plaques have been in place for over 30 years with no replacement needed. In most UK and US outdoor environments — suburban gardens, parks, churchyards, building walls — a well-maintained outdoor plaque will last the life of the installation.

In harsh coastal environments with high salt air exposure, an occasional light polish with a proprietary metal cleaner will restore the surface. Even without any maintenance, the plaque may develop a patina over time, but the engraving remains permanently legible. The photochemical etching is not a surface treatment — it is physically embedded in the metal and cannot be washed, worn, or faded away.
